The “Samir Abdulhadi Conference Room” was inaugurated on the recently renovated fourth floor of AUB’s historic Bechtel building in a celebratory event held at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture on January 25, 2016.
The recently inaugurated room occupies an area of over 80m2 and is designed to fit a state-of-the art audiovisual system to serve as a meeting and presentation room for large groups of senior staff and academia from the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture as well as the whole University.
The equipment and renovation of this conference room was made possible through a generous donation by Mr. Samir Naim Abdulhadi, an engineer himself, a former vice-chairman of the Khatib and Alami, Consolidated Engineering Co., and an AUB alumnus who supports human, educational, and philanthropic institutions.
The event was attended by Dean Makram Suidan of Engineering and Architecture, administration members, and distinguished members of the AUB community including: Dr. and Mrs. Zuheir Alami; Mr. and Mrs. Samir Abdulhadi; His Excellency Taher Masri, Mr. Faisal Alami, Mr. Maher Masri, Mr. Zahi Masri, Dr. and Mrs. Khalil Hindi, Mr. Riad Murtada, Mr. Yousef Shammas, Mr. Yousef Moubassaleh, Mr. Sadek Sawwaf.
Following thanks by Dean of Engineering and Architecture Makram Suidan, Mr. Abdulhadi thanked his partners at AUB and described his contribution as a humble token of gratitude and thanks to a “generous and deep-rooted institution”. “Fifty years have passed since I graduated from this grand educational edifice that graduated thousands of learned thinkers, university professors, scholars, politicians, leaders of thought and national action – this institution has given us a big push in facing life and practicing professional and national work,” said Mr. Abdulhadi. “It gives me pleasure that this meeting today coincides with our celebration of 150 years since the establishment of our beloved university to which I, along with my generation, previous generations, and all the generations to come, are wholly indebted.”
